Tatsuki Shimoda

taiko

Tatsuki Shimoda comes from a musical family and has studied many different instruments, from recorder, piano, oboe, cello, and now taiko. While he has primarily studied early western music, he has explored a variety of other genres from baroque to contemporary music. He was formally introduced to the taiko at the University of Toronto where Kiyoshi Nagata teaches a course. The mixture of creativity, physicality, and musicianship required to perform the music drew him in instantly. He is eager to explore a new avenue of music creation and to explore his Japanese heritage through the group’s work.  Tatsuki became a member of Nagata Shachu in 2024.
