Yoi Yoi Matsuri: A Japanese Dance Party!
Celebrate the opening of Nagata Shachu’s 29th anniversary 2026–2027 performance season with ‘Yoi Yoi Matsuri’ – a lively, welcoming evening of Japanese communal dancing and live music!
Put on your most colourful dance clothes, kimono, or yukata, and join members of the Yoi Yoi collective as they teach you several traditional ‘bon dances’. No dance experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and be ready to move! The dances will be accompanied by the exhilarating live music of Nagata Shachu, creating an unforgettable atmosphere where everyone can join in.
The evening begins with a special 20-minute performance of Japanese folk music by a shamisen ensemble led by Aki Takahashi, setting the stage for an evening of dance, music and celebration.
Whether you come to dance, watch, enjoy a drink, or simply soak up the atmosphere, everyone is welcome, at this casual and intimate celebration at Hugh’s Room.
