Eriko was born and raised in Japan and began playing piano at a young age which led her to study classical piano at Osaka College of Music in Japan. During her studies, Eriko also took a jazz rhythm class which afforded her opportunity to try drums which was an eye opening experience. With one of her other extra-curricular activities being martial arts, she felt taiko was a wonderful marriage between music and martial arts which is why she began taking taiko lessons with Nagata Shachu when she moved to Toronto. Having been steeped in Japanese culture from birth, Eriko always felt a pull towards taiko including seeing performances by the world renowned Kodo drummers with her family. Eriko became a member of Nagata Shachu in 2024.
