Raised in Yellowknife NT, Brian’s fascination with music did not start with an early introduction to classical piano, but rather with a later introduction to the vast amount of musical styles that existed outside his 22 000 population home city. He decided to pursue music in Toronto after being accepted by the University of Toronto, and finished his Bachelors of Music in 2023. During his time at university, Brian was introduced to Taiko Drumming, and was immediately fascinated by its sound, physicality and presentation. As both a former competitive swimmer and musician, he was honoured and excited when asked to train to become a Nagata Shachu member. Brian continues to strive for improvement, both in his performances as a member, as well as his understanding of the musical artform. Brian Liang became a member of Nagata Shachu in 2024.
