Artistic and Executive Director
Kiyoshi Nagata is the founder, as well as the artistic and executive director of Nagata Shachu. Aside from his performing, composing, and teaching duties, over many years, Kiyoshi has been involved in almost every aspects of the group’s operations including grant writing, bookkeeping, HR, organizing and producing over fifty of Nagata Shachu’s self-produced season concerts as well as its numerous DVD and CD recordings, developing and managing new program initiatives, Enewsletter and Social Media creation, video and photo editing (Premiere Pro/Photoshop), audio recording and mixing (ProTools/Reaper), web design, performance bookings, as well as public taiko class registration and curriculum design. Out of necessity during the growing stages of Nagata Shachu, Kiyoshi self-taught himself these valuable skills, and gained important insight and appreciation in undertaking these responsibilities. He is now fortunate to have a dedicated board of directors, staff, and performers who support him in many of his administrative functions and are passionate about Nagata Shachu’s future growth and success.
Kiyoshi also serves on the board of Directors for the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, sits on the Arts Advisory Committee for the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and has sat as a jury member for the Toronto Arts Council and Juno Awards.
