Tanomichi Uta

Composer:Tatara Toki
Arrangement:Aki Takahashi
Premiere Performance:October 13, 2006 - Al Green Theatre

The fox is the god of the rice fields, who returns to the mountains to serve the gods in autumn. The fox god, known as a hunter of rodents, has long been an object of veneration for Japanese, whose crops have often suffered from plagues of rats and mice.

This piece, as envisaged by the bamboo flutist and composer Tatara Toki, tells of how a boisterous troupe of dancing foxes suddenly appears through the mist, then disappears as the skies clear.

Watch as a troupe of foxes guides us through a solemn ceremony, as the curtain to another realm of experience is opened.
