Mt. Iwaki
is a symbol of Tsugaru, a city and region in northern Japan.
There are many songs about this majestic mountain, a symmetrical volcano
which rises from the plains at the base of the Tsugaru Peninsula and
stretches more than 1600 metres in height to dominate the area. Within
this area is located a primeval beech forest, part of a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. The
various instruments heard in this song represent the myriad sounds
which can be heard among these ancient trees.
