| Although taiko
come in a multitude of shapes and sizes, most can generally be classified
into three families: barrel-shaped drums carved from a tree trunk;
drums constructed from staves of wood; and small drums whose skins
are tightly fastened to the body by rope or bolts. All three have
distinctive sounds and can be positioned in a way that requires different
playing techniques. This song highlights the unique character of each
type of taiko as well as the personalities of the individual drummers. |
